Read on to learn how you can be your own best healer.

What Is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda literally means “the science of life.” It originated in India over 5,000 years ago and has been used as the traditional healing system alongside its sister science, yoga. It is considered one of the oldest forms of medicine and works as preventive and curative medicine.

Ayurveda is comprised of a vast body of information about healthy living, preventative care, and treating disease. Originally passed on through word of mouth, Ayurvedic knowledge was eventually written down in the ancient Indian language Sanskrit.

By combining daily self-care, a healthy diet, movement and exercise, and a natural lifestyle, you can use holistic Ayurvedic medicine to help you achieve your health and wellness goals. According to Ayurveda, you create your state of health based on how you interact with your environment. By making choices that support your inner nature, you can live harmoniously and in balance.

According to Ayurveda, each person is composed of the five fundamental elements: Space, Air, Fire, Water, and Earth. These elements are uniquely combined within each individual, creating a distinct and unique blueprint, also known as our Dosha.

Knowing your Dosha will help you determine the best lifestyle choices, diet, and treatments to offer optimal wellness for your mind, body, and spirit.

What Is An Ayurvedic Health Consultation?

An initial Ayurvedic health consultation includes:

  • A detailed account of your health history

  • Current imbalances or health concerns

  • An assessment of your mind/body constitution

  • As an assessment of your eating habits and digestive health

  • An evaluation of your daily routine and activities

During your consultation, you will be educated on the principles of Ayurveda as they apply to your specific conditions and wellness needs. Along with education, you will be asked questions about your daily diet, profession, working conditions, exercise routines, relationships, mental health, and more.

A trained Ayurveda Health Counselor will not only examine your body but will also take an extensive personal and medical history assessment. This thorough intake process helps the counselor identify vital symptoms and potential causes of imbalance and determine suitable treatment options.

The goal of an Ayurvedic health consultation is to find your baseline and help you with daily preventative treatments to get you back to your level of balance. Following an Ayurvedic lifestyle, you will use holistic approaches to balance the body, mind, and spirit.

After your initial Ayurvedic Health Consultation, you will receive a personalized plan that includes:

  • Ayurvedic dietary guidance and nutritional program

  • Daily routine and rituals, and lifestyle changes

  • Personalized breathing techniques, exercises, and more

  • Specific body treatments and therapies

What To Expect

Ayurveda is a holistic approach to wellness, and according to Ayurveda, the mind, body, and spirit are interconnected. To ignore any one of these aspects is to miss the whole.

You are your own unique being with your own special mind-body constitution. While Ayurveda is universal, the treatment is highly personalized. Each client consultation follows the same guidelines, but each plan is indivialized for you. No two people are the same, so neither or the treatment plans. Your assessment and plan are entirely customized for you, your body, and your lifestyle.

Ayurveda Health Consultations at Soma Wellness Spa focuses on the holistic, whole-body approach. Meeting with a trained Ayurvedic Health Counselor will help break down conflicting health information and confusion. Also, Ayurveda is all about balance, so you don’t have to worry about following harsh elimination diets or quick-fix tips that don’t fix anything.

During your Ayurvedic Health Consultation, you will find much of it is intuitive, and most likely,  the assessments will confirm what you’ve felt is right or wrong for your body but have come to doubt or ignore.
