Essential Oils During Pregnancy

Which Essential Oils Can You Use in Pregnancy?

Many mums-to-be enjoy aromatherapy and want to carry on with it to help them ease the aches and pains, nausea, and other symptoms that come along with creating a new tiny-human. Here are some tips to get the most out of your aromatherapy routine.

1. Less is more. Essential oils are very concentrated so a few drops go a long way.

2. Mix it up! Your body adapts to the oils as you use the same ones over and over. Try new blends for maximum benefits.

3. Dilute all essential oils with at least a teaspoon (5ml) of a base oil(coconut is great) or lotion before applying it to your skin.

Oils that are generally safe for an uncomplicated pregnancy. Always consult your doctor before adding a new component to your care:

  • Chamomile

  • Lavender

  • Citrus oils (tangerine or neroli)

  • Frankincense

  • Peppermint

  • Ylang Ylang

  • Eucalyptus

  • Bergamot

  • Geranium

Pregnant women should avoid the following oils due to increased risk of early labor or related complications:

  • Rosemary

  • Basil

  • Jasmine
